EFMI – A brief description..
The European Federation for Medical Informatics Association (EFMI) is non-profit organization in Medical Informatics in Europe. The main aim of the organization is the theory and practice of Information Science and Technology within Health and Health Science in a European context.
In 1976, the objectives was founded. These objectives include:
- To advance international co-operation and dissemination of information in medical informatics on a European basis;
- To promote high standards in the application of medical informatics;
- To promote research and development in medical informatics;
- To encourage high standards in education in medical informatics;
- The function as the autonomous European Regional Council of IMIA.
An appropriate Medical Informatics Society can represent each European country in the EFMI.
All representatives societies in countries within the European Region of the WHO are entitled to apply for EFMI membership
Currently, the EFMI members are from Austria, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and United Kingdom.
The EFMI strongly supports a variety of activities in order to develop health and biomedical informatics in Europe. For instance, the participation in European projects, the AC2 initiative, the social media etc.
